Betty J. Owen
Betty J. Owen, 83 of Independence, MO passed away Friday, July 21, 2017 at St. Luke’s East Hospital. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave, Independence, MO 64052. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m., until service time Wednesday at the chapel. Betty was born August 8, 1933 in Kansas City, MO to Melvin and Della Irene (Buckley) Chapman and has been a lifelong area resident. She was a beloved wife, mother and homemaker who enjoyed embroidery, fishing, reading and collecting Santa memorabilia. She was a member of the VFW Post 1000, women’s auxiliary and was a Girl Scout leader for a number of years. Survivors include; a daughter, Linda Chamberlain and husband Tom of Grain Valley, MO; a son, Rick Owen and wife Janet of Lee’s Summit, MO; 4 grandchildren, Jason, Laura, Christopher and Matthew; 6 great grandchildren, Hunter, Sawyer, Sophia, Harper, Cali and Olivia; 2 cousins, Ron Buckley and Anne Parks, as well as, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude L. Jr., in 1999.
