Obituary for Augustine "Gus" Fonseca Jr.

Gus Fonseca, 84, of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away unexpectedly on April, 24, 2017. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2017 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 17200 E. 39th St S. Independence, MO. Gus will be laid to rest next to his loving wife in Zion Cemetery, Corder, MO. Gus was born on December 26, 1932 in Ancon, Canal Zone. He was a proud Army veteran serving in the Korean War. Gus along with his wife, were long time members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Gus hated the cold weather, so after retirement he enjoyed winters in Australia visiting his son Tobin. During the summer months, he could be found in his garden, growing some of the finest tomatoes around. He would make and can his special “miracle salsa” for his family and friends. Gus was an outstanding chef who passed along his love of cooking to his children. He also enjoyed horse racing, fishing, and just spending time with his family. Survivors include; daughter Amber Townsend and her husband Chuck; son Kyle Fonseca and his wife Lisa; son Tobin Fonseca and his partner Shane Scanlon; daughter Dawn Jianas and her husband Steve; grandchildren Nicole Valentine and her husband Kellee and Nicholas Jianas, sisters Jenny Ganaden and husband Morris and Gladys Brooks; many friends and a large extended family. Gus is preceded in death by his loving wife Marilyn “Sue” Fonseca (Weber).
