Wilburn Maurice Prichard
Wilburn Maurice Prichard, 80, passed away on Sept. 20, 2016.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, Sept. 25, from 1-2pm, with memorial service at 2pm, both at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. in Independence.
Contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association in his honor.
Wilburn was born on July 1, 1936, in Toronto, Kansas, to Chester Maurice and Edna Laura (Bolson) Prichard. He graduated from Toronto High School in the class of 1955. He met Barbara Lea Parker in the first grade; his mischievous and teasing ways eventually won her heart over, and they married in 1956. To this union were born three children. They moved to Wichita, KS after high school, where he worked for Boeing Aircraft for three years. They settled in the Kansas City area in the late 1950s, where he worked for Cummins Engine Co. He began his career cleaning parts, and worked his way up to the sales department. He retired after 46 years with the company.
Wilburn had a strong relationship with the Lord, and he served as Deacon at Waldo Avenue Baptist Church. He also enjoyed working on cars, camping, and traveling. He was a jokester, and loved to make people smile.
Wilburn is survived by his wife and best friend of 60 years, Barbara; three children, Tamara Straub (husband, Pastor Del), Steven Maurice Prichard, and Randall Maurice Prichard; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren (and two on the way!); and sister, Marilyn Adamson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty Jo Grossarth.
