Obituary for Cato Sims Jr.

Cato Sims, Jr., of Independence, MO, passed away far too soon on Friday, April 2, 2021. He was 65. A service will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, April 8th at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052.

Cato was born on September 4, 1955 to Cato and Versa (Travis) Sims in Chicago, IL. He graduated from high school in Mexico, MO and attended college in Highland, KS before settling down in the Independence area with his beloved wife Patricia “Patty” (Wilson) Sims. They raised two children, Cato III and Samantha.

Cato worked in retail for many years and retired after enjoying a packaging position at Zerega & Son Pasta Co. in Lee’s Summit. He loved tending to his yard and home, helping people with projects and following politics. He also enjoyed reading Star Trek books and watching poorly made Sci-Fi movies. But Cato’s true passion was his family. He will be missed by all who know and love him.

Cato is survived by his wife and best friend, Patty; his son, Cato III; his daughter, Samantha Wilcutt (Tom); his grandchildren, Taylor Sims-Kobe (Ashlynn Mitchell), Jordan McKinney, Zackary McKinney and Will Wilcutt; a great-grandchild, Henley Mitchell; his sisters, Joann Sims, Denise Walker, Naomi Cole, and Rose Sims; his brother, Bob Sims (Charlene); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Cato is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Gwendolyn Sims.
