Obituary for Alice May Boone (Caldwell)

Alice May Caldwell Boone, of Independence, MO, a woman who will always be remembered for her kindness and generosity, passed away on February 24, 2021. She was 85 years old. Alice was born July 17, 1935 in Arcadia, KS to Charles Everett Caldwell and Ada May Bales Caldwell. She graduated from Raytown High School, then went on to marry Jerry C. Boone on March 23, 1957. She was a loving and generous wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Alice had lived in Independence since 1958. Most recently she’d been residing at The Groves Retirement Community. She was a charter member of Christ United Methodist Church. Alice retired from Affordable Sewing. She took pride in contributing to unique sewing projects such as the street banners for the Country Club Plaza and goal post padding for key NFL games such as the Super Bowl. She was a long-time member of the Independence Young Matrons. She held various leadership positions there, and actively participated in their annual children’s theater. She helped design and make costumes, build theatrical sets, and was a support actor in many of the performances. Alice was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary Tirey J. Ford Post 21. While her children were in school, she was an active leader in PTSA. She was a member of Chapter 91 EAA-Experimental Aircraft Association frequently helping with pancake breakfasts and Young Eagle flight events.

Alice and her husband Jerry were avid motorcycle riders. Alice served as the first female president of their motorcycle club; the Kansas City Road Riders. Their riding adventures took them all across the country, including a trip that circled all five Great Lakes. She and Jerry were Bluegrass music enthusiasts and attended regular live events and festivals. Alice had always been very creative. She regularly used their wood shop tools to cut, construct and paint crafts. She was a talented seamstress creating many unique articles. She routinely made blankets and tote bags for women’s shelters, and walker bags for the Veteran’s Administration Hospital and various nursing homes. She and her husband were active members of Supper Club; a monthly potluck initiated by high school friends from a rural youth group during the 1950’s. The group consisted of about seven families that met for over 50 years. Alice was extremely proud of her grandchildren, Eric and Amy. She enjoyed caring for them when they were young. Alice had a huge heart and was very selfless in her achievements. Her passions were her children, grandchildren, family, friends, pets, sewing and crafts and she will be dearly missed by many.

Alice leaves behind a daughter and son-in-law Catherine and Mark Burrow. Two grandchildren; Eric Burrow of Arkansas City KS and Amy Burrow of San Leandro CA. She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry Chrisman Boone and her son Gary Charles Boone.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 2, from 5-7 p.m. at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. in Independence, MO. A private graveside service will be held for the family. Alice will be laid to rest at Floral Hills East Memorial Gardens in Lee’s Summit, MO.
