Obituary for Lois Gertrude Fickel

On Wednesday, May 12, 2021, Lois Gertrude Carlile Fickel went home to be with her Lord.

Lois was born July 5,1926 in Logan, Iowa, to Velma Gertrude Towne Carlile and Wallace Carlile. She was one of three children. Lois was baptized a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1935, in Woodbine, Iowa.

She began school in Iowa, but her family moved to Independence, Missouri in 1939. Lois graduated from William Christman High School in 1944.

Lois met Harold Fickel, and they were married September 12,1947 at Walnut Park Church in Independence. They had two children, Glen, in 1950, and Connie, in 1951. Lois worked for the telephone company, was a housewife, and worked for the Independence School System. After retiring, they moved to Clinton, Missouri, and attended the Adrian branch of the Restoration Church of Jesus Christ.

Failing health led them to John Knox Village in 2012. After Harold passed away in October of the same year, Lois moved to the Fountains in Independence, where she remained until her passing.
Lois was active in church work, taught Sunday school, was a Skylarks leader, and Cub Scout leader.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold, and son Glen.

Lois leaves behind her daughter, Connie Smith, and son-in-law, Kelley of Independence. Three grandsons, Steven and wife Denise, Christopher, and wife Elizabeth, and Jeff, and wife Kristin; eight great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Mary Fickel and Sherry Carlile, a nephew and three nieces, and many friends.
She will be missed.

A graveside service will be held Friday, May 21st at 2:00pm at Mound Grove Cemetery.
